JOB DESCRIPTION
POSITION: SEASONAL PROJECTS/COMMUNICATIONS OFFICER
DEPARTMENT: PROGRAMS
REPORTS TO: PROGRAM DIRECTOR
NATURE AND SCOPE OF THE POSITION

The post is responsible for developing and implementing the communications and media plan of Mercy USA to optimize the impact of the programs. The Position will also monitor the seasonal and emergency projects; keeping the strategic focus of the Regional Office; and building the profile of Mercy USA in external settings, ensuring that the organization’s experience and expertise are well communicated and consistently presented.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Work closely and under the supervision with our HQ (Director of Communications )
 Be responsible for utilization of communication aids, tools at field level, monitor the impact level and design the changes as per progress of the project implementation
 Support Program Managers in producing and distributing high quality communications materials (brochures, leaflets, etc.), as needed
 Advocate for emergency programs such as floods, disease outbreaks, refugee projects
 Prepare assessments for all emergency and seasonal projects for the East Africa
 Support logistics and finance departments by providing all supporting documentations for seasonal and emergency projects according to departmental policy/requirements.
 Monitor all seasonal projects and ensure good documentation on the same
 Coordinate with other technical departments to ensure a common approach, synergy and sharing of information
 Support all sectors (WASH, Nutrition, Health, livelihood and seasonal/emergency) in the development and editing of success stories
 Support all sectors (WASH, Nutrition, Health, livelihood and seasonal/emergency) in documentation of program activities including activity pictures, interview questionnaires and video clips.
 Represent MERCY-USA externally and collaborate/coordinate with local authorities, counterparts, partners and stakeholders;- For emergency and seasonal projects
 Guide the photography team on how to take excellent quality pictures
 Review all photographs and documentation and share with team including HQ in a timely manner

QUALIFICATIONS ESSENTIAL DESIRED
Academic
 Degree in Communications or an equivalent
 Professional qualification will be an added advantage
Experience
 2-3 years in similar position
 Experience in Public Relations
 Experience working in Somalia
 Experience working with budgets, including managing financial outlays and expenditures
Work related skills
 Excellent Writing and Editing skills
 Strong knowledge of the programme management cycle, and related process and structures for quality programme management
 Good organizational skills
 Good time management skills
 Strong communication skills, including ability to lead and manage remote
 Ability to work in harsh conditions
 Strategic thinking
 Aggressive and Result Oriented
 Able to set targets and meet own targets on a monthly basis and follow up targets of reporting colleagues
 Able to meet deadlines
 Knowledge of local Language- Somali
 Able to identify programme challenges and plan and communicate alternatives for smooth programme implementation
